BEE farm project was doomed to fail: farmer

Government is investigating the matter.

An established farmer brought in to help with a BEE project at a farm at De Doorns in the Western Cape says beneficiaries were set up to fail.

Operations ground to a halt at Nirwanda Farm in 2012 after strategic partners appointed to help beneficiaries were allegedly involved in fraud and corruption. Government is investigating the matter.

A new strategic partner, farmer Boetie Kriel, has been appointed to help the beneficiaries.

“How can government give such people a farm like this? If I do projections for next year it will be about R7 million to prepare the crop here. You give people a farm, but with no financial assistance – where were they supposed to get money from?”
