Printing SA also launched a new foundational learning programme (FLP) on Wednesday, 2 May, which will run through to November. The programme will aim to provide member companies with individuals who are eager to take up career opportunities in the printing and packaging industry. Furthermore, Printing SA has received a grant from the FP&M SETA to fund 80 learners on the FLP. Printing SA encourages member companies to enrol learners on the FLP (or any component thereof) as part of their BBBEE socio-economic development spend. According to Steve Thobela, CEO of Printing SA, South Africa’s print and packaging industry is hard at work in helping develop the industry and is constantly on the lookout for ways and opportunities to create and grow employment opportunities. Bursary competitions have been run for the past two years, and one such success story from the 2017 competition is Khuthandzo Carrington Muliwa. Muliwa was the first winner of the bursary competition and received a fully sponsored course by Printing SA. His aim is to run a printing business. "Muliwa stood out as a worthy applicant, as he certainly showed his commitment and dedication. As Printing SA, we were thrilled to have started this programme to provide a worthy recipient with the opportunity to provide much-needed skills to start over and grow a business to the next level," says Thobela. Winners will be announced at the end of May. Entrants must be available to start the course in June to qualify for the prize.
