The launch, which will take place on 26 June in Empangeni, will also include the official opening of the first National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) office in northern KZN.
‘As we rally behind the 2018 Youth Month theme, ‘Live the Legacy: Towards a Socio-Economically Empowered Youth’, our response as the city is to open the one-stop-shop that is a strategic centre enabling the youth of uMhlathuze and the district to go to one place for all their business needs,’ said City Mayor, Cllr Mduduzi Mhlongo.
‘We are mindful of the distance the youth travel to seek even minor assistance and are subjected to being sent from pillar to post, whereas now they will find most crucial elements under one shelter,’ Mhlongo said.
The City of uMhlathuze Youth Development Unit will also be housed under the SMME centre.
‘In this centenary year of Nelson Mandela, the founding father of our democracy and mama Albertina Sisulu, one of the giant struggle stalwarts, we committed ourselves to make a difference that will leave a lasting legacy in youth development.
‘The youth are the centre of the triple scourge we are fighting – unemployment, poverty and inequality.
‘Young people are a key priority in all our efforts as the city, to create employment and creative conducive ground for them to prosper with their businesses and we constantly encourage them to create small businesses, because research and survey shows that the creation of small businesses is one of the key solutions to our economic challenges,’ said Mhlongo.
The National Development Agency (NDA) will also have offices that will assist civil society organisations with a special focus on youth and women, cooperatives as well as NPOs.
