In celebration of Youth Month, Maphumulo Local Municipality held a Youth Career Expo and Information Day to empower and equip the youth for the future.
The event, held at KwaNombokojwane Multi-Purpose Hall on Tuesday, June 26, was an initiative by the Maphumulo Municipality youth development office. The aim was to expose the youth of Maphumulo to educational institutions, companies, organisations and businesses that wish to engage in all aspects of youth development.

This career expo gave a platform to stakeholders to engage and interact directly with the youth on products and services they offer in line with youth development.
Mayor Zibuyisile Khuzwayo-Dlamini gave a message of support where she encouraged the youth, saying: “This event was designed to empower you, the youth of Maphumulo, so that you can learn more about different careers and better your lives in the future.
“We want to invest in youth development because we want to see the economic development landscape being changed in the Maphumulo area,” said the mayor.
The mayor went on to introduce the guest speaker, MEC for KZN Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) Sihle Zikalala, who gave the keynote address where he acknowledged the youth of 1976 for the role they played in the changing the lives of young people of our country.
He further urged the youth of Maphumulo to make the right careers choices, which will benefit the country through economic transformation.
“Find a career path that you are passionate about. Set goals and work hard towards making your dreams become a reality. Government is investing in the youth; make use of the opportunities that are available and educate yourself and be disciplined,” said MEC Zikalala
This youth expo was held in partnership with EDTEA-KZN, Sappi and exhibitors from Cedara Agricultural College, Mangosuthu University of Technology, Moses Kotane Institute, Coastal KZN TVET College, uMfolozi TVET College, Eskom, SEDA, Enterprise iLembe, Department of Social Development, Department of Agriculture, Supply Chain Academy and ETDP SETA.
