Boost for Boksburg’s recycling SMME’s
BOKSBURG ADVERTISER / 17 JULY 2018 - 13.13 / STAFF REPORTER
The donation aims to improve the collection, weighing and baling of recyclable material for resale to recycling businesses.
Four waste businesses in Boksburg have received baling machines, signage boards and industrial scales, from PET plastic bottle producer Serioplast and the PET Recycling Company (Petco).
Captured in the picture are the SMMEs beneficiaries from Manquabuild Recycling, Ekhuliza Gauteng Primary Cooperative, CJU Environmental Management and the Lakhwisha Holdings. With them are Belinda Booker and Casper Durandt from Petco. This was during the handover ceremony on July 13.
Serioplast and Petco, in partnership with the Ekurhuleni metro, handed over the donated equipment to the three recycling SMMEs on July 13 at the CJU premises in Angelo.
The SMMEs are Manquabuild Recycling (Van Dyk, Boksburg), Ekhuliza Gauteng Primary Cooperative (Ramaphosa informal settlement), CJU Environmental Management (Angelo) and the Lakhwisha Holdings (Vosloorus).
Madikana Thenga from the metro said: “In line with Mandela Day, this is a community development initiative. These machines will help feed their families, contribute to the economy and also assist with waste reduction in the metro.”
Belinda Booker from Petco said they have conducted a five-day accredited training for the recycling SMMEs.
“We then went around to their sites to see what their basic needs were. Because they were already in business we wanted to empower them to grow their business,” Booker said.
Phumla Mjonono of CJU Environmental Management said: “We will have something to put on the table because of these machines. We thank all those who contributed to giving us a legacy and for always being patient with us.”
Sonnyboy Senamela from the Ekhuliza Primary Cooperative, which is situated in Ramaphosa, said they were happy for the donated machines as it would help with the smooth running of their business.
