The Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism distances itself from a social media advert which calls for small, medium and micro-sized enterprises (SMMEs) to apply for the Economic Growth and Development Fund (EGDF).
This follows public threats of taking on the department for excluding the Frances Baard and John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) district from the process of applications.

Marketing manager of Ecstasy Communications Richard Motlalentwe Lesoane called a media briefing on Tuesday, 18 September.
The department’s media liaison officer, Zandisile Luphahla, responded of having no knowledge of the advert.
Lesoane believes that senior government officials are benefiting from the funds that were to assist SMMEs.
According to the department, the MEC decided to deviate from the current policy guideline and shift the entire 2018-’19 EGDF from the department to the Northern Cape SMME Trust.
“In our quest to ensure transparency in the EGDF process. The MEC instructed that the Northern Cape SMME Trust advertises the long and short list and also the approved list of beneficiaries of the EGDF,” Luphahla said.
