The aim according to PPC Southern Africa managing director Njombo Lekula was to provide an environment for skills development to help people participate in the economy and escape poverty.
More than 20 bricklayers from around Mamelodi got a crash course on how to properly construct bricks using the right measurements to ensure strength and stability, so houses don’t collapse or cave in.
“Our enterprise development will assist in creating jobs in the communities,” he said.
A female brick maker in the community Abigail Matloga, said she was grateful for the crash course on making quality solid bricks.
”We clearly have been getting the measurements and products wrong when making bricks,” she said.
Last week at the Skills Development Summit at the CSIR Higher Education and Training Deputy Minister, Buti Manamela, said the country was short of skills.
“Gone should be the days when we have to import 2000 welders into the country, precisely because we don’t have that skills.
"Gone should be the days when we can’t no find within our own neighbourhood a plumber, electrician, painter or tiler,” he said.
