Intsika is a South32 funded enterprise and supplier development (ESD) initiative that allows businesses to view all opportunities posted by South32 and other companies who may require the type of services small businesses provide.
Hillside Vice President of Operations, Calvin Mkhabela
Hillside Vice President of Operations, Calvin Mkhabela, said through the ESD programme, they have contributed more than R22.6-million to small, medium and micro-sized enterprises (SMMEs) development, created more than 325 jobs and provided support to more than 200 entrepreneurs.
‘Our commitment to the empowerment of local entrepreneurs in the area is demonstrated through the enterprise and supplier development village.
‘Here business support for enthusiastic entrepreneurs is offered – a platform that fosters learning and guidance which can translate into practical business success.
‘This was established to advance local economic development in Richards Bay, speed up transformation, create jobs and promote socio-economic growth.
‘We encourage entrepreneurs to register on Intsika to ensure they are always kept abreast of opportunities that are advertised,’ said Mkhabela.
While registration on the portal does not automatically mean the SMMEs will be awarded a tender, it provides an opportunity for them to bid.
‘Those who are successful will be placed on South32’s vendor database and be provided with support to ensure they are able to deliver on the scope of work.’
