Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, delivered his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on 13 February 2020.

During his speech, the President touched on a number of pressing issues that all South Africans face, specifically inclusive growth which is a catalyst for job creation, poverty alleviation, improved health services and equality in addressing the objectives as contained in the National Development Plan.

The President highlighted the need to forge social compacts between business, government, labour and to a greater extent communities.

The key themes from the SONA (i.e. Trade and Industry; Education and Employment; Health and Safety and Infrastructure) could potentially present opportunities for such a social compact within the Govan Mbeki Municipality.
