MEET THE WOMEN BEHIND ONE OF SA'S BIGGEST SEAFOOD FACTORIES

If you have bought smoked salmon, frozen prawns or hake fillets from many of the retailers in SA, chances are good it came from a seafood processing factory co-owned by more than 300 people – mostly women – from Atlantis, north of Cape Town. Atlantis Seafood products, which manufactures specialised seafood products, is the largest 100% black-owned frozen seafood production factory in the country. As the third-largest seafood processing factory in SA, it is owned by 359 people.

The company would like guaranteed, sustainable access to locally
caught hake and other seafood products.
In 2016, Atlantis Foods Group gave 100% of the economic rights to Atlantis Seafood Products to previously disadvantaged workers, most whom had been with the company for more than five years. The deal was done under the banner of the Atlantis Workers Trust.
